Chuck. That’s a key phrase within the DC metropolitan area. Chuck was synonymous with having a good time, crankin, blues, jazz, pockets, congos and DC’s indigenous music Go-Go. Chuck Brown was deemed the God father of Go-Go, i’ll take it a step further and say that he was the daddy. (no Maury) Chuck made go go his own thing, super musical and his reuse of jazz standards and red clay blues made the old heads and youngins sing along. So today i’m jive hurt. Chuck is a DC staple, like Ben Ali of Ben’s Chili bowl, like Bohemian Caverns like the Big Chair..ain’t no party without Chuck for real. Chuck gave the blessing when grace was to be said on the mic. Chuck cut the turkey and showed everybody else how to serve it up right, dress it up, keep it classy no matter ones lot in life. It didn’t matter if you were fresh “out” with the plastic bag full of your belongings or about to get your PHD, Chuck made everybody feel the same. That’s what i’ll miss. Chuck Brown was 75. I’m blown. Prayers up for the fam, the legacy will continue. #RIP
